Last weekend was welcomingly beautiful for our arriving spring breakers, wasn't it? They are here! I got brave and took a ride down 30A on Sunday and it wasn't too bad, except that Seaside was very crowded. Also, watch out at the corner of 30A and 393 — several bikinis, and old folks too, walking down the middle of the road and out in front of traffic. Yes, I am serious.

"Reluctant Republican" Barbara Olschner held her debut book-signing party last Thursday night at Modica Market in Seaside. She said since she is always there any way, it made sense. Susan Breeden, Eileen West and Franco Washboard Jackson, Lisa Harper, Laurie and Brian McGee, Scott and Cyndi Cobine, Wendy Mignot, and Anita Page attended. She held another on Saturday afternoon at Sundog Books.
St. Rita's final fish fry of the season last Friday night saw more than 500 people go through. A portion of the proceeds went to help local wounded warrior Dan Carlton. Diners donated $1,187 for Carlton and his family. In addition, St. Rita's Men's and Women's Clubs donated approximately $2,500 from the fish fry to pay for the tuition of the Carlton children while in Texas.
On Feb. 27 the Santa Rosa Beach and Golf Club Women's Association held its monthly meeting to honor the publication of long-time member Ellen Saunders' new book of poetry "Masquerade." She was introduced by Lenore Nixon of Destin and Barbara Goins of Freeport. Monthly meetings often showcase the talent of locals. Betty Krika attended, along with Barbara Goins, Lenore Nixon, Joyce Pittman, Jane Boehm, Evie Butler and Nancy Pitchford.
Green Thumb Garden Club took its annual bus trip to New Orleans this week. RoseAnn Knight was one who went.

South Walton welcomes another new baby into the 'hood. Chris and Mauri Smith welcomed Charles Christopher Smith to the world on March 7. He weighed in at 8 pounds, 1 ounce and 20 inches long. Proud grandparents are David and Sally Smith.
Geoff McBride is expecting another baby girl in May. Maybe she will be born on my birthday!
