Walton County Habitat for Humanity will dedicate its 26th home at 9 a.m. this Saturday, July 13, at 444 East Burdick Street in DeFuniak Springs, to the Garcia family, a single mother of two. Habitat for Humanity Walton County invites the local community to join in this celebratory moment that took 15 weeks of building and more than 200 volunteers to construct the new home on property donated by the city of DeFuniak Springs. More than 35 local and national businesses donated time and supplies to the efforts to complete the 26th house in Walton County.
“We are happy to welcome Walton County Health Department employee Lourdes Garcia and her family into the 26th Habitat for Humanity home,” said Teresa Imdieke, executive director of Walton County Habitat for Humanity. “I want to thank all of the volunteers who made this house possible and the city of DeFuniak Springs for donating the lot so that we may continue our mission of providing home ownership opportunities to well deserving families like the Garcias.”
“I can finally say what the phrase ‘Home is Where the Heart Is’ means,” said new homeowner Garcia. “A home for my children, that they can finally call their own. Where there is no fear of losing it or having to run from it, but their own safe haven built on love, trust and security.”
