It may have a new address, but it's still business as usual at Enzo's Italian Restaurant — and that’s good news to the Italian restaurant’s many regulars.
Now in its seventh year, the family owned and operated business moved from Highway 393 to its new location at 3906 W. Highway 98 the first week in February this year.
The new location not only provides a larger kitchen and dining room, but the roadside visibility helps to attract new customers, said owner and chef Denise Harrigan.
"Some people have come in thinking we're a brand new restaurant," she said. "And our regular customers come in saying 'We're so glad you're here, we thought you left.'"
Harrigan hadn't always set out to be a chef, but it was always a dream of her husband Daniel to own a restaurant, she said.
With Italian parents and grandparents, it was only natural for Harrigan to share her culinary talents through authentic Italian food. And it turns out the local community is a fan, with regulars frequenting the restaurant throughout the years. Harrigan equates the restaurant's individuality and popularity with her dedication to fresh ingredients that are cooked to order.
"We don't pre-make anything," she said. "Everything is fresh to order since day one. We're peeling the eggplant and frying the chicken on the spot."
When cooking, whether for family or customers, Harrigan remembers that age-old rule: Treat others the way you want to be treated.
"If you're taking food out of the refrigerator, you're just making leftovers," she said. "And I don't like leftovers."
When it comes to comfort food, there's hardly anything more comforting that homemade Italian dishes and desserts.
"I never had anybody tell me they didn't love my homemade tiramisu and Italian cheesecake," Harrigan said. "And nobody makes cannoli like we do."
Enzo's has received the stamp of approval from locals and visiting customers throughout the years, but the compliment that stands out in Harrigan's mind comes from one Italian to another.
"There's a lady, she has a heavy Italian accent and she's sampled just about everything," she said. "She said when she doesn't want to cook, she can come here."
Harrigan has always been the cook in her family, but it wasn't until she entered the restaurant business that she realized how much she enjoys feeding people.
"I like to watch people's faces and see them enjoying their food," she said. "I watch their face light up and think, ‘I did it again.’ I've always cooked from the heart and I believe it makes a difference. When you cook with love, it changes flavor."
