The St. Joe Community Foundation, Inc. donated $5,000 to the South Walton Youth Football League for the purchase of new football helmets. Inside each helmet is an inflatable cushion that allows the player to customize the helmet’s fit to offer better protection. The Taylor Haugen Foundation was also instrumental in helping the South Walton Youth Football League obtain the helmets.
The Taylor Haugen Foundation was founded in 2008 after the untimely death of 15 and a half-year-old Taylor Haugen in a football accident at Niceville High School. His parents, Brian and Kathy Haugen, have diligently pursued helping football youth play safer in Taylor’s honor. The Foundation provides grants, education and funding to athletic teams, schools and districts through its Youth Equipment for Sports Safety (YESS) program, as well as recognizing and supporting outstanding scholar-athletes with scholarships and awards.
“The St. Joe Community Foundation, Inc. is pleased that our donation enabled the South Walton Youth Football League to purchase new helmets for their players,” says Janet Greeno, executive director for the Foundation. “We are also honored that our relationship with the Taylor Haugen Foundation has proven beneficial to the South Walton Youth Football League.”
Last year, The St. Joe Community Foundation donated $5,000 to Taylor Haugen Foundation for the purchase of safety equipment for the Emerald Coast Middle School and South Walton High School football teams.
