A ribbon cutting and dedication was held at Good News United Methodist Church Oct. 27 at the newly renovated Children-Youth Building.
After several months of planning and fund raising, many volunteers from the congregation spent countless hours transforming the 14-year-old building into “Good News Way.” The generous donations from many individuals and Ace Hardware made the project possible.
The building hallways reflect a town’s main street, with storefronts including Jonah’s Surf Shop, Noah’s Pet Shop, Solid Rock Café, Revelation Book Nook, Kindred Snocones and The Park. Murals on the walls depict Noah’s Ark, Graffiti Alley, Good News Cinema, and Esau’s Barber Shop. Park benches and a “Fruits of the Spirit” produce stand line the entrance and front hall.
This effort to provide a new welcoming space for children and youth reflects the high priority that Good News UMC places on teaching children and youth to know God, love God and serve God.
In addition to Sundays, the building is used daily for numerous activities including after school Joy Club. Ballet and Do-Jo classes as well as private guitar and voice lessons are also offered at various times during the week.
Good News UMC is at 4747 Hwy. 98W in Santa Rosa Beach.
