You like bacon? You like beer? If you do, Blue Mountain Beach might be the place to be next week.
Redd's Fueling Station will kick off the hamlet's first BaconFest on Nov. 2 at their restaurant with an amateur chef contest beginning at 6 p.m.
All area amateur chefs are encouraged to take in a sample of your favorite dish using bacon and submit it for judging. Redd will judge and the winner will be crowned king or queen of BaconFest.
While you're there, order Redd's bacon dish, Devils on Horseback, and you can be the judge of how good it is as Redd's and neighboring restaurants compete in a multi-day bacon battle.
The shifts next door to Redd's on Nov. 5 at Marie's Bistro. Marie's owner Hanie Nasri invites everyone to come in and order one of his small plates of a bacon sushi roll and other yet-to-be-decided bites for between $3 and $6.
Nicks on the Beach jumps into the competition on Nov. 6 with their submission of bacon-wrapped shrimp. While they are known for having stellar seafood, Nick's believes that everything is better with bacon!
On Nov. 7 Basmati's Restaurant brings the competition to a sizzle. Owner Penny Hunt said they are still kicking around ideas and will probably have two or three different entries to submit.
"The idea opens up possibilities," she said. "We are looking at everything from ice cream to entrees. This will be fun."
On Nov. 8, Johnny McTighe's Irish Pub will be the bacon battleground, and on Nov. 9, the BaconFest week ends where it began at Redd's Fueling Station with a counting of votes from the public on which Blue Mountain Beach restaurant has the best bacon dish.
Stop in each day at these locations on the appointed day, order the special and complete the judge's comment card. Scores will be tallied to award the Best Of BaconFest dish.

"We hope this becomes an annual event," said Redd's Fueling Station owner Paul Vizard. "Who doesn't love bacon?"
Vizard said actor Kevin Bacon and his musical brother Michael have been invited, but as of press time, neither has responded.
