Holiday greetings from the Walton County Snowbirds. The 2013-2014 snowbird season is well on the way to being one of the most active for all our northern friends who gather on the beautiful shores of the Emerald Coast to enjoy the pleasant weather and friendly community.

On Dec. 11 the club had their first general meeting at the Destin Life Center at the Destin United Methodist Church. It was an opportunity for members to reunite and share experiences since last snowbird season and complain about the weather that they left to their family and friends back north. The membership was entertained by Redd, the “Singing Bartender,” and she did not disappoint with her up close and personal musical renditions.

The prize committee, headed by Jeanette Diggins, rewarded those in attendance with the opportunity to win one of the many door prizes donated by our generous community businesses. We thank them graciously for contributing to the value of belonging to the Walton County Snowbird Club — you can’t win it if you are not in it.

Our President, Dom Trolian, penned the following message kicking off the 2013-2014 season:

Hello Snowbirds,

Well, we are off and running with the 2013/2014 snowbird season. We have held three registrations with a total of 338 registering. On Dec. 11, we held our first general meeting at the DUMC Life Center.

The meeting was well attended with nearly 300 snowbirds and 34 vendors. The entertainment was great with “Redd,” the singing bartender, entertaining us. We look forward to having her back again next year.

In my November letter I mentioned that we were in need of a secretary. I am very happy to report that Jean Jordan, following the approval of the board, is our new secretary. That being said, we are always looking for volunteers to help support our activities and for those who have interest in becoming a member of our board. We currently have an opening for one member-at large. If you have any interest in these areas, please contact me or any other board member.

With the holiday season rapidly approaching we will take a brief pause with registration. The next registration will be held on Jan. 6, 2014. I am looking forward to seeing many of you there.

I want to wish you all a very Happy New Year.

If you are not already in Florida, I wish you safe travels.

Regards,

Dom Trolian
