Joseph Harold Taylor



Joseph Harold Taylor passed away Dec. 21, 2013, in Augusta, Ga., at the age of 90. He was a resident of Seagrove Beach, Fla. Joe was born Feb. 14, 1923, in Florala, Ala., son of the late Norris and Kate Taylor.



A veteran of World War II, Mr. Taylor was a pharmacist mate first class in the Navy and served at Normandy on D-Day and on a Liberty ship in the Pacific Theater. 



After the war, he returned to school and graduated from Alabama Polytechnic Institute, later Auburn University, with a degree in pharmacy. He spent his career as a pharmacist and owner of Taylor Drug Company in East Gadsden, Ala.



He was a member of Point Washington United Methodist Church.



Joe was an avid sportsman and was often sought after for his expertise in both salt and fresh-water fishing. His angling experience led to many fishermen seeking his knowledge of fishing coordinates in the Gulf of Mexico.Joe and is survived by four daughters, Joyce Taylor Levi of Birmingham, Ala., Elise Taylor Freeman of Santa Rosa Beach, Jan Taylor Watts (Charlie) of Gadsden, Ala., and Ellen Taylor Jones (David) Augusta, Ga.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.



A private family memorial was held in Augusta Dec. 26 at Thomas Poteet and Sons Funeral Home. Chuck Brown, his family’s dear friend, officiated. Mr. Taylor will be interred at Crestwood Cemetery in Gadsden.
