Gregory Thomas France

Gregory Thomas France slipped away, quickly, quietly, and peacefully at home in Santa Rosa Beach on Oct. 6, 2012. It will come as no surprise to his many devoted friends that his chosen time of passage, 4:38 p.m., was just in time for cocktail hour! Cheers!

Greg did not let prostate cancer diminish his gusto for life. He stayed ever busy, creating the most incredible artworks of his life, right up until noon on Thursday. Just days before, he told his wife, Donna Amend, “this dying s*** is really inconvenient.” It was Greg's well-known style that when he was personally done with any party he would just quietly slip away. His passage from this earthly party was no different.

Greg was born in Miami on Jan. 9, 1948. He was awarded The Air Medal for sustained helicopter missions over hostile territory during his Vietnam War service. He loved flying, building houses, growing vegetables, creating art, fishing, boating, laughing with good friends, and America. He hated war and his Vietnam experience manifested into a lifelong pacifist philosophy.

Greg is predeceased by his parents, Roy France and Louise Shepherd. He is survived by two older brothers, one of whom is Mike France of St. Petersburg.

Greg generously touched many lives; and is also survived by a legion of devoted friends, numerous exes who remain affectionate fans, and a community circle of loyal loving supporters, to all of whom his wife Donna extends grateful thanks and hugs.

Bon voyage to our dear Greg! Your dignity and joie de vivre are forever beloved.

Should you feel moved to make a gift, Greg's preference is that everyone gift one another with kindness. Beyond that, any charity of your choice.
