The Walton County Coastal Branch Library has planned an exciting February of art and community programs. The Friends of the Coastal Branch Library present artist Lori Drew, originally from New Jersey. She states that our unique landscape has helped to shape her unique style. This show combines Lori's oil paintings along with cold wax creations on handmade wood box panels.
Immersed in the art community, Lori has served on the A+ Art Committee in partnership with the Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County, and is in a joint project with Arts in Medicine at Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast to establish a hospital gallery. Visitors are welcome at Drew's Clay Road Studio or at clayroadstudio.com.
A Friends of the Walton County Coastal Branch Library Book Sale will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8. All genres of books are available including fiction, non-fiction, children's books, cookbooks, DVD, and CDs. Come find a fabulous book and support your Coastal Branch Library.
The Coastal Branch's Winter Community Programs offer a packed February. On Feb. 11, Jim Dietrich, local beekeeper, discusses Dietrich's Honey Farm and his business throughout Walton County. What was once a hobby with his father years ago has turned into a county-wide enterprise, with his honey sold at Red Bay Grocery, Fannin's Restaurant, Bruce Cafe and City Produce in Fort Walton Beach.
Author Rickie Wood Bovee will discuss her craft of writing and self-publishing on Feb. 18. Rickie, from Portland, Ore., moved to DeFuniak Springs in 1983. She writes of ghosts and has several books including “Button Hook Child,” “Don't Move the Coat” and “My Summer With Emma.”
On Feb. 25, Escape to Create will present Lisa McCormick, singer-songwriter, as a part of their mission to instill art and culture into community life. Further, they offer two-month residency sessions in January and February to emerging and established professional artists.
All community programs begin at 10 a.m. For more information and registration, contact Linda Thompson, 437 Greenway Trail, Santa Rosa Beach, or call 850-267-2809.
