February is one of the best known months for setting the trends for the rest of the year. Yep, I am talking about the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week 2014 in New York City each February.

Donít have time to read all the articles on each designer or watch the live feeds? No problem. I am here to help you and make it applicable here in the Sunshine State.

This year we are seeing bold modern florals, soft pastels, dressed up oxford shirts, and a new edgier boho-chic. So what does this mean to us down here on the Gulf Coast? Well, to me it means I need to go shopping. The new H&M in the Destin Commons cannot open soon enough. In the meantime however, I am sure we all have a piece or two hanging in our closet that we can add or mix up to give it a new fresh 2014 look. Here are a few tips that any of us can follow.

Let's start with that button-up in your closet, the one you may only wear to work or business meetings ó yes, the white or light blue one? Or maybe you donít have one, but your husband has one that you may or may not have accidentally shrunk in the drier? Use it.

Button it all the way up to the top, roll the sleeves to elbow length and tuck it in to high-waisted shorts or pants. Also, you can layer it under a little black dress. Perfect for a night out when the ocean breeze is still a little chilly and not yet summertime refreshing.

For the modern take on floral, stores such as Target, Forever 21, Gap and J. Crew have a variety of options in all price ranges, whether you are searching for a dress, top, clutch or even a full ensemble. To get a edgier boho look add embellished sandals or a metal fringe necklace ó think deep vintage jeweled tones.

Donít have a lot of pastel? Add a pair of retro pastel sunglasses and nude oatmeal wedges to a pair of winter white jeans and a chambray top, and you have a fresh look to take you into spring. Want a full look? Pair light and dark of the same tone. Pinks and blues are great for this look.

Are you convinced? It is super easy to bring New York Fashion Week here and make it Florida-fresh and affordable for all price ranges.
