The fall season in South Walton has often been recognized as a special time of year. And like the miraculous moment when a caterpillar emerges from its cocoon as a beautiful butterfly, the Flutterby Festival brings a colorful celebration of art and nature to Scenic 30A each November.

Presented by the Merchants of Rosemary Beach and the Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County (CAA), the annual Flutterby Festival will flitter into Rosemary Beach, Nov. 10-11, for a weekend of fun for the whole family.

"The festival is a wonderful combination art, creativity, kids and nature," said Jennifer Steele, executive director of the CAA. "Supporting the arts in Walton County’s schools is at the core of our mission. The Flutterby Festival is one of the many ways we can nurture this partnership and celebrate the students' artistic expression and creativity."

Butler Elementary third grader, Madison Strayhan, captured both art and nature with her colorful butterfly design, which was chosen as the 2012 festival poster winner. Her artwork is displayed prominently on all festival posters and t-shirts. Strayhan's artwork is one of many Walton County student designs that will be on display at the annual event.

The event will feature a variety of art and nature activities as well as a daily butterfly parade. Nature and art intersect with demonstrations by Zoo World's animal ambassadors, live music by Tesla and Ohana bands, interactive adventures by the Seaside Repertory Theatre, performances by 30A Dancewave, a student butterfly art exhibit, and a variety of artist booths. Interactive stations, including the kid's art tent, butterfly garden planting, butterfly wing costume decorating and carnival games, ensure attendees express their creativity and leave with a special treasure.

As an added bonus, the Children’s Volunteer Health Network’s “Cottages for Kids” will debut the 2012 collection of designer cottages, promising a magical weekend in Rosemary Beach for kids of all ages.

The Flutterby Festival is sponsored by the Merchants of Rosemary Beach.  Other sponsors include Rosemary Beach Property Owners Association, Meridian Workshopsand SoWal.com. Admission to the Flutterby Festival is free. Some activities require a small fee with proceeds benefiting the CAA.
