Holiday songs and a slight nip in the air can only mean one thing — now is the time to buy your best four-legged friends a special Christmas treat.
Local dog lovers need look no further than Furry Fanatics for perfect pup-pampering gifts for under the Christmas tree. The shop at Gulf Place is stocked with everything from Christmas-decorated dog treats to Santa outfits to Sandy Paws, a plaster of Paris mix to capture your dog’s sandy prints after a walk on the beach.
And if that isn’t enough to cross off every item on your good little dog’s list, wait until the new year when owners Julie and Tim Brown will release an exclusive Dogs of 30A line of accessories plus a wide range of supplies and novelties.
“We’ve created a line of Dogs of 30A gear,” said Tim of the exciting range of products that will serve as a reminder of time at the beach.
Tonia Shatzel and Rob Wood started Dogs of 30A as a coffee table book in 2010, out of a love of bringing their own four-legged friends down to the Emerald Coast’s white-sand beaches. Local design firm Design 360’s Keri and Greg Atchley lent a paw to the designing of the book, and the project quickly grew into a well-“liked” Facebook page and sticker often seen on cars around town.
“They created something unique and special for area dog lovers and we wanted to continue to see it grow,” said Julie, adding that many clients will proudly share with her the pages on which their four-legged friend is featured.
Now, the Browns are taking that idea to the next level and are excited to partner with 30A.com to promote the Dogs of 30A.
“People love 30A and people love their dogs, it just kind of makes sense to put the two together,” said Julie.
Her husband added that it’s a perfect way for visitors to take back a part of the beach.
“You can come as a vacationer or a resident and be part of the community,” he said.
The current Dogs of 30A sticker features a blue background with a dog sitting at the beach, overlooking the sun and the surf.
The couple recently added a bit of 30A.com sunshine to the Dogs of 30A logo, bringing together the perfect blend of a love of dogs and a love of 30A.
“I think this ties them together so well,” said Julie of the “relaxing, Zen” sticker and 30A logo, which has become so indicative of our area.
Tim and Julie can’t wait for the line to come out next year, which will be a constant reminder of summertime fun at the beach.
The line should be available January 2013, which will also mark the shops second anniversary. Since opening in January 2011, the couple has been consistently growing their products and offerings, adding grooming and pet-care services to their wide range of food, toy, and treat inventory.
Those who love shopping at Furry Fanatics on visits to 30A will be glad to see that the store will be continuing on that path of growth, and in the coming year the store will be growing virtually with the launch of an online store in January 2013.
“All the tourists come in here and ask, ‘How can we get your products at home?’ ” said Tim.
Now, festive products, all-natural food, dog toys, and Dogs of 30A gear will all be available at the click of a mouse. Online shoppers can be sure the products they buy at the beach will be the same quality of products shipped to their home.
“They have the comfort of knowing who we are,” said Julie.
The project has been about a half a year in the making, but will be worth the wait, as the entire store will be online, good news to out-of-town buyers who want to keep their pantries stocked with high-quality pet food.
