Are you thinking about relocating to Santa Rosa Beach?

Even if you already live here, I have some surprising facts about our beach community.

1. Best Beach Destination

I’m sure you already know that Santa Rosa Beach lies between Destin and Panama City Beach. And I can pretty much bet that you know that the north and south borders are the Choctawhatchee Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. But were you aware that in 2011 Santa Rosa Beach was named one of the “10 Best Beach Destinations for 2011” by Yahoo! Travel? We have been mentioned many other times by various media outlets, so you can be confident that you are relocating to a truly beautiful place with over 50 beach and 26 bay access points.

2. Not Governed…Well, Sort Of

We are unincorporated. To use Wikipedia’s definition we are, “a region of land that is not governed by its own local municipal corporation, which is instead administered as part of larger administrative divisions.” Yep, that’s us!

3. Population Growth = More Businesses

Since 2000, Santa Rosa Beach has seen a growth of over 95 percent. We now have approximately 12,000 residents calling Santa Rosa Beach home. This population growth has enabled us to enjoy the benefits of new businesses wanting to relocate here. We are anxiously awaiting the opening of our very own Carmike Cinema at Grand Boulevard. This theater is set to open in 2013 just in time for spring breakers. The Boulevard 10 will offer what Carmike Cinema brands as the adults-only “Ovation Club” featuring light food and adult beverages. You will be able to enjoy this feature while you watch your movie in the comfort of a high-backed leather seat! I know I can hardly wait!

4. Average Cost of a Home

Some people get a little surprised, by this but the average cost of a home in Santa Rosa Beach is $233,000. This is actually a 1.16 percent growth over last year.  Currently in Santa Rosa Beach there are 430 homes active on the MLS, and they are in some terrific neighborhoods. The prices begin at the very low price of $59,000 for a cozy 2 bedroom/1 bath home, and transition to the luxury bay front living of a 5 bedroom/3 bath home listed at $7 million.

5. Residents from All Over

What I love about living in Santa Rosa Beach is that the residents come from all walks of life. Being a “destination” vacation spot, visitors travel here, fall in love, and then decide to move or buy a second home. That’s how I ended up here! Also, don’t be surprised when you walk down the street and see a “celebrity” or two. It’s not unusual for celebrities such Ronnie Dunn, Dierks Bentley, Morgan Freeman and Goldie Hawn to be seen visiting our area. Britney Spears, Sheryl Crow, Vince Gill & Amy Grant, Tim McGraw & Faith Hill, all own homes here too!

6. Jobs Jobs Jobs

As I said above, we are a “destination” vacation spot so it makes sense that the majority of our residents work in the service, sales or office industries in and around Santa Rosa Beach. It’s no secret that some in the service industry make the majority of their yearly income during our summer season. Our residents have a median income of $50,000-$75,000 per year, and jobs in our area have increased by 0.56 percent over last year.

7. Fantastic Schools

When I decided that relocating to Santa Rosa Beach was perfect for me, I also wanted to make sure that the schools were perfect for my kids. Well, I was in luck and so are you because we have Grade “A” schools. Florida grades schools according to student test results using what is called FCAT – Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test. The FCAT was created by a group of Florida teachers in the mid-1990s to make sure that students are learning the basic skills they are supposed to be learning.

8. The Doctor Will See You Now

We welcomed the not-for-profit Sacred Heart Hospital to Santa Rosa Beach in 2003, and it continues to grow as our area does. The hospital offers a large range of services including a 24-hour emergency room. In November of 2012, the hospital announced it had just earned The Joint Commission’s Seal of approval for its Joint Replacement Program. This award recognizes Sacred
Heart’s “dedication to continuous compliance with The Joint Commission’s state-of-the-art standards.” Sacred Heart’s physicians and staff are committed to the highest level of care for their patients. This is why they were named “One of the Nation’s Top 100 Hospitals” by Thomson Reuters in 2012.

9. Sunshine!

This fact may not be that surprising but I feel it’s important to know when relocating to Santa Rosa Beach. We typically have 229 sunny days! July is typically the hottest month with an average temperature of 91, and January being the coldest with a low of 38. Not too bad!

There are many more surprising facts that could convince you that relocating to Santa Rosa Beach is a great move, but that’s another day.
