More than 100 volunteers who make up the engine that drives the Walton County Snowbirds are looking forward to Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013. New and returning snowbirds are expected to stop by Faith Assembly Fellowship Hall, 306 South Geronimo Street in Miramar Beach, between 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. to sign the membership rolls.
Referring to an anticipated arrival of hundreds of snowbirds, Tom Schwichtenberg, the organization’s president, said, “We are expecting one of the busiest seasons yet because we have some new activities including Pilates, Taoist Tai Chi Practice and Zumba, a Latin-inspired dance fitness program, as well as experienced leadership in other programs that have enjoyed popularity for many years, including arts and crafts, creative writing, discussion groups, aerobics, golf, tennis, and the singles group 43 activities in all.” An annual $9 membership fee buys a passport to free workshops and activities that include great golf deals.
Of course, people attend the monthly general meetings to gain a chance to win one of the great prizes contributed by Emerald Coast business firms. Who doesn’t want a shot at winning a golf outing or a fishing excursion or dinner at one of the many eating establishments that help make this area so special? In addition, other firms present enough gifts and discounts to make a discount-loving snowbird’s head spin. But, there’s more.
Visiting vendors offer opportunities to examine their products and services at close range. On top of that, the entertainment, the kind that costs more than a few shekels at area nightspots, always excels. The next general meeting takes place at 10 a.m. Jan. 9 at Destin Life Center Building of the Destin United Methodist Church, 200 Beach Drive. On tap is David Seering whose Sinatra style approach to music always wins the hearts and applause of audiences.
Golfers can’t get a better deal than joining the Walton County Snowbirds where a membership card gets the holder eat-your-heart-out-prices at some of the Emerald Coast’s leading golf courses where they join other snowbirds on play days, scrambles or league play. And you know what savings mean — more golf. Check out the possibilities at www.waltoncountysnowbirds.com/Golf_PFWS.html.
