The best thing about this special season of the year is welcoming family who come home for Christmas, and the traditional parties where you see all the cheerful smiling faces of friends.

I was blessed to be able to welcome home my beautiful daughters for Christmas again this year and enjoy the pleasure of their company for a bit.

On Saturday night, we went to The Vue and enjoyed a performance by local celebrity Geoff McBride. It was a full house that night, which included Cynthia Kennedy, Betty Krika, Et and Jimmy Clark, Crawford Sandifer, Jimbo Holloway, Greg and Beverly Schmitt, Donna and Ed Macdonald, Tom and Dana Saffel, Mike and Carol Stovsky, Laurie Beck, Cindy McConnell, Pam and Matt Tedesco, Karen and Rick Schoonover, Shari Roberts, Hank White, John Stasko and his daughter Alex from Austin, as well as Ashley and Summer Wheeler.

On Sunday night we took in the talents of Dread Clampitt at The Red Bar and saw Debbie and Megan Weant there.

Even those who don't live here come to look forward to certain rituals and parties of the season here. Such is the case with my daughters who have come to eagerly anticipate our annual Christmas tradition of attending a candlelight church service together on Christmas Eve, then on to Karen and Maunsel White's open house. The White's lovely home overlooking the Gulf and with a large wrap-around porch is a perfect place for a gathering. Some who attended this year were Tom and Dana Saffel, Eric Saffel, Barbara and Whitney Rowan, Michelle and Rod Joly, Prudence and Albert Bruns, Kris and Manny Chavez, Joe Serrato, Didon Comer and Hank White, Candace Abuvala, Scott Bruns, Payson Comer, Melissa and Larry Davis, Chandler Davis, Mary Elsberry, Nancy and Billy McConnell, Georgeen Newell and Ken Golden, Dana Juselin and William Schissler, Terry and John Olive, Patti Johnson, Mike and Sherri McCarty, Kelli McCarty, as well as Summer and Ashley Wheeler. I believe a wonderful time was had by all.

Jane and Doug Anderson also hosted a Christmas Eve soiree at their Gulf Place home. Bill and Judy Grubbs, Mike and Carol Stovsky, Sharon Thompson, Tom and Michelle Fillingim, Jim and June Milam, Lorene Gruzdis, and the Andersons' daughter Nancy stopped by.

There was lots of last-minute grocery shopping going on Christmas Eve at Publix on 98. Mike Ragsdale, Marion Barnes, Martha Cooper, and Constance Rogers were there.

On Christmas Day Betty Cork graciously opened her WaterSound home to friends who were invited to come by for a bit of cheer.

Steve and Kay Crawford spent Christmas in New Orleans.

Courtney and Michael Harbin of Seagrove Beach celebrated the holidays in Montgomery with their families.

Scott Jackson spent Christmas in Titusville.

Congratulations to Lauren Carvalho on her engagement to Steve Pingree. Congrats to Alison Porter also.

Michelle and Rod Joly added a new family member for Christmas: Barksdale.

Wish a "happy birthday" today to artistic Sean Dietrich, Jimmy Green, and Judith LaHaie.

Tomorrow to Tricia Northcutt, and Eric Clauson.

Raise a toast Monday night to Realtor Cynthia Kennedy, and Mitzi Millsaps.

All the fireworks on Tuesday will be for artist Donnelle Clark, and Carla Hard.

Wednesday is Susie Jacobs' special day.

Wish a "happy birthday" Thursday to Realtor Pat Carlyle, photographer Jackie Ward, and money-man Buz Livingston.

And on Friday to architect Lourdes Reynafarje.

I hope everyone enjoyed a warm Christmas filled with love. Next up: New Year's Eve; and then we can rest.
