James Evans Brown
Mr. James Evans Brown, Sr., 82, of Portland, Fla., passed away Jan. 8, 2013. He was born May 30, 1930, in Portland, to William Brown and Ruby Chastine Kelly Brown.
Mr. Brown was a lifelong resident of Portland. He was Methodist by faith and a member of the Portland United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving his country in the United States Air Force with ore than 20 years of service before retiring as a tech sergeant. He also worked with the Walton County Sheriff's Department as a Walton County Deputy before retiring. He enjoyed spending time with his family and telling stories of his family history.
Mr. Brown is preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Wilma Jones, Gladys Helms, and Laura Dries.
Mr. Brown is survived by three sons, Tommy Godwin of Portland, Bruce Godwin and wife, Rhonda, of Panama City, Fla., and James Brown, Jr. and wife, Lorna, of DeFuniak Springs; daughter, Denise Piasecki and husband, Jeff, of Freeport; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A time of visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 10 at Clary-Glenn Freeport Chapel Funeral Home, 150 Highway 20, in Freeport.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Jan. 11 at Clary-Glenn Freeport Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Joel Glenn officiating.
Pallbearers will be James Brown, Jr., Joshua Piasecki, Casey Piasecki, Caleb Piasecki, Tommy Godwin and Bruce Godwin. Honorary Pallbearers will be the employees of Walton County Sheriff's Department.
Floral arrangements are being accepted.
Burial will follow in the Hatcher Cemetery with military honors.
