It seems that every year, an event starts to define a certain month or season. November is marked by the Seeing Red Wine Festival. Digital Graffiti makes June even more enjoyable. And January, of course, is the 30A Songwriters Festival month.
The event is produced by the Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County and features some legendary talent along with up-and-comers in the music industry. After a great year for the local economy, the fourth annual event looks to kick 2013 off with a busy Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend.
“As in year’s past, we wanted to offer incentives for folks to stay with us and go to the festival,” says Sunburst Beach Vacations co-owner Steve Howard. “We’ve noticed tremendous growth in the amount of people taking advantage of that. This year will be the best by far.”
With acts like Fastball, Lucinda Williams, and Mary Chapin Carpenter, the fourth annual festival looks to be better than ever. The event has grown to include over 125 artists and 250 performances in venues ranging from the Seaside Meeting Hall Theatre and Central Square Records to the Gulf Place Amphitheater.
The event is truly a community festival with local acts like Kyle LaMonica and Ben Friedman along with the Forrest Williams Band being a part of the schedule. And you might see some familiar faces checking tickets and running venues, too.
“The music is great, but one of the aspects that we love is the fact that this is a volunteer driven event,” Howard says. “Locals can do everything from check wristbands at the door to emcee performances. It really makes the event even more special.”
