Price is reduced for Friday casino trips to Biloxi
Well registration has closed for this winter and the total member number is just about the same as last year. Every year we always have over 2,000 people enjoying our activities and making new friends. There are some of us, including myself, who have been members for 20 memorable years. We must be doing something right!
First, here is the latest on the storage lockers. The tickets will be on sale between the two meetings on Tuesday at $7 per box. The lockers will be open on Saturdays from 8 - 9:30 a.m. beginning on Feb. 23 and close on March 29. For any questions, please call Jim Galea at (850) 651-2077. He can tell you the acceptable box size and if you can store other things.
News about our Friday casino trips - The price has just been reduced to $10 per trip for the remainder of this season. Included in this price is $15 in "Slot Free Play" at the Casino and the one-stop bus ride to and from Biloxi. What a bargain! See Fran Yee in the back of the room at the meetings to reserve your place or call (850) 837-7093 ext. 1014 for further information.
Remember that this next Tuesday is the craft show. This starts at 8 am prior to the meeting, continues between the meetings and then after. We have some fine talents among our Snowbirds and there is always something new.
Our second talent show is the feature of our next meeting. It is sure to be full of surprises and fun. I can't wait to view this.
The Friendship Club will be meeting for lunch after the next meeting at the Longhorn. A trip to the dog races at Ebro is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 20, thanks to Leroy Mackenzie. Call him if you need any more information at (850) 837-4250.
Many, many of our ladies were present at "Soundside" for our annual lunch and fashion show. This has always been such a well-attended affair every year and so much fun that if you didn't make it this year, be sure you make it next year.
Now hear this! Tickets are now on sale for our last big bash. Our Farewell Party will be held on Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Soundside at Hurlburt. Music for dancing will be by Ooh-la-la. You have a choice of entree - either roasted pork loin or boneless chicken breast, along with spinach salad, potatoes and apple cobbler for desert. Come at 5 p.m. for cocktails, dinner at 6 p.m. and then dance the night away.
We have had some great parties this year, don't miss this one and $22 per person is a good price.
Now for the golfer's news. Sign up on Tuesday, Feb 19, to play at Sandestin Baytown on Feb 27.
Feb 25 is a play day at Shalimar Pointe, so call there for tee times. You must have your Destin Snowbird Club ID.
I have been informed that many of our new Snowbirds have not been aware that we have a Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast right here in Miramar Beach, just past the Sandestin Resort. They have a large emergency section and also facilities for all tests that must be done on us old folks on a regular basis. The new Olson Women's Diagnostic Center just opened this summer. The hospital is currently hosting special one-hour tours of the hospital for winter guests (us), and residents, to learn about current and future services. These tours begin every Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the welcome desk in the main hospital entrance and will be available through March 28th. They are limited to 12 people, so reservations must be made. Call (850) 278-3072. It's always good to know the nearest place to go for health or accident care.
We have four more weeks. Enjoy them.
