Obituaries 3-15

Bruce Bates

Mr. Bruce Bates, 66, of Freeport, Fla., passed away March 14, 2010. He was born May 25, 1943, in Kona, Ky., to Buel and Beatrice Layne Bates.

Mr. Bates was Freewill Baptist by faith and a member of Freeport Freewill Baptist Church, where he was the former pastor. He owned and operated Bates Barber Shop for 35 years. He was an avid outdoorsman and very dedicated to his community in Freeport, working at his Barber Shop as long as his health would allow.

Mr. Bates was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Buel, James and John Bates; one son, Bruce Allen Bates; and daughter, Felicia Renee Bates.

Mr. Bates is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Dorothy Bates of Freeport; five grandchildren, B.A. Bates, C.J. Bates, Jesse Bates, Zach Bryant and Ashlyn  Bryant; one great-grandson, Conner Bates; and brother, Bobby Bates of Freeport. He was also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation services will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. March 19 at Clary-Glenn Freeport Chapel Funeral Home, 150 East Highway 20 in Freeport.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. March 20 at Clary-Glenn Freeport Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. David Isaac officiating.

Burial will follow in the Hatcher Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be B.A. Bates, C.J. Bates, Jesse Bates, Zach Bryant, Johnny and  Jimmy Stratton. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Issac, Brad Marse, David  Burke, James Maloy,  John  Wheeler and Charles Kendrick.
