Van R. Butler School Beautification Day
March 7 was a beautiful day in the neighborhood of Van R. Butler Elementary and Middle School. More than 20 teachers, parents, students and PTO members came out to work on installing a new sandbox, resurfacing a playground area and spiffing up plantings.
"We want the kids to learn about ecology, and that's why we're installing drip irrigation systems instead of sprinklers," said Sam McInnis, president of the PTO. "The kids were so excited about this project, they were waving at us from the bus and saying ‘thank you'," declared McInnis.
Recognizing the importance of respecting the environment, Anna-Lisa Daniel and her husband Jason, owners of Eastern Lake Nursery, LLC, have contributed significantly to the effort. The Daniels have a first grader in attendance at the school.
"We're very happy to have so many parents and students involved today," said Daniel.
