Wolfkeil helps lead Birmingham United to title

Veronika "Ronnie" Wolfkeil helped lead Birmingham United's U-19 girls to the U.S. Youth Soccer Association's Southern Regional championship in Dallas, Texas this past week.

Playing center defense for BUSA 90, Wolfkeil, a former Niceville star, anchored a stingy defense that allowed only two goals in five games, including four shutouts.

BUSA 90 tied NASA 08 Elite (Ga.) 2-2 and defeated IMG Academy (Fla.) 2-0, the Texas S.C. Challenge 1-0 and Tophat S.C. 08 Gold (Ga.) 1-0.

BUSA 90 beat the D'Feeters 90 (Texas) 1-0 in the finals to earn the bid as the Southern Regional champion to the USYSA final four National Championship tournament, which will be held in Lancaster, Mass., July 21-26.

Wolfkeil was the 2008 Daily News Soccer Player of the Year and now plays for the University of Alabama.
