Organic produce delivered to your front door

When busy schedules leave little time for chores, some households look to companies that deliver – whether pizza, bottled water or dry cleaning.

Off the Vine, a company that provides 100 percent organic food, is now delivering on County Road 30A. In fact, the company that has operated in Atlanta for five years now makes weekly deliveries from Panama City to Pensacola. Business partners Shana Wolf and Cecilia Smith believed it was a good time to expand and offer organics along the coast.

Wolf had worked with one farmer near Atlanta who wanted, “To pull it ripe.”

Working through his distributors, produce had to be harvested earlier and the farmer believed his customers weren’t getting the best product.

At the time, there was a scarcity of farms close to Atlanta. Selling produce from pickup trucks on the roadside was banned. And as Atlanta commute times continued to increase, shoppers were left with no time to shop multiple locations. A central location in Atlanta was needed to gather and distribute organic produce.

That led to Off the Vine.

“We cut out the middle man,” Wolf said.

Here in South Walton, deliveries are made to homes and businesses between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Wednesdays. On Monday, the “organic produce tab” at www.offthevineproduce.com advises what will be in the week’s produce box. They also sell organically prepared products such as jams and relishes.

Wolf said neighbors can get together and save on delivery costs. The delivery fee for one box is $13.95, but two deliveries to the same address is the same price, and price reductions are greater when six or more boxes are delivered to one location.

“We like to encourage neighborhoods to get involved and talk about our product,” Wolf said. “By delivering to one location, we can reduce the delivery price and also save on energy by reducing stops.”
