Letters to the Editor Sept. 5
No library?
Thank you for your editorial last week concerning the closing of the Library on Saturdays. Surely there must be a better solution.
While I understand about the economy and the need to trim the budget, I do not understand why Saturday was the day chosen to close--I know the article said the traffic on Saturdays was not very heavy. However, for those of us who work Monday through Friday, Saturday is the only day that we could enjoy the Library.
I am just as disappointed as my two year old grandson: when I picked him up for our Saturday time together, he immediately asked: "Library, Granma?” The disappointment on his face when I said "no we can't go today because it is closed,” mirrored the disappointment I felt.
Commissioners, can't the schedule be changed to accommodate those of us who work and our grandchildren who love to go to the Library on Saturday mornings? If not, then I think our priorities are once again out of sync with what is important.

School reports available
The federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act requires school districts to provide parents and community members with annual school status reports at the beginning of each school year. This NCLB School Public Accountability Report may be thought of as a school’s report card, through which its progress in meeting both federal and state accountability requirements may be monitored. It includes information on school FCAT results by student subgroup, student readiness for the next educational level, teacher qualifications, school improvement priorities and levels of success and status on making adequate yearly progress as required by the NCLB Act.
The schools in Walton County are doing an excellent job, as evidenced by their performance ratings issued through the Florida A+ System of School Improvement and Accountability. The additional information contained within the NCLB SPAR provides school administrators and staff with the tools they need to better address the specific needs of their school population and make their school improvement initiatives more meaningful. Because it reports assessment results across a wide range of student demographic subgroups, the NCLB SPAR assists schools in truly making sure that no child is left behind.
NCLB SPAR Reports are now available at each school site. If you would like a copy of any of these reports, please request them from the individual schools or from the school district curriculum office.
