God's work
A sermon sharing the importance of community a few weeks ago was well heard. The parishioners of "A Simple Faith" showed their sense of community when assisting in getting a local family back on its feet.
Enough money was donated in one day to get the job done.
The family is very thankful. The husband is very happy to be driving to work, to fish, to the doctor, just anywhere and enjoying the freedom from having to rely on anyone and transportation to his job at Fort Walton Beach.
God works in mysterious ways. Tears were flowing a lot when talking or thinking about what can happen in a loving community when we work together. What a pleasure to be a part of that.
Our heartfelt thanks to all of you who were a part of that with us.

Grave reminders
Another Memorial Day has come and gone. As seen on television, the view of the thousands of crosses in military cemeteries are just as awe inspiring as when viewed in Arlington and France.
These crosses are silent testimonials to the sacrifices made by those resting there and to the mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers and all who lost their loved ones all too soon.
Memorial Day is a day of remembrance and reflection. Upon deep reflection, one is reminded that the deaths represented are the result of the megalomania of single individuals.
These individuals present well to an audience. They are articulate, glib and are able to convince a large segment of the population to support their ambitions. History is replete with examples as represented by, among others, Adolph Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Benito Mussolini, Kim Jong il, Hugo Chaves and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Upon deeper reflection, it becomes apparent that, without the support of a large portion of the citizenry, either through ignorance or inattention, these individuals would not have been successful in their disastrous plans.
We, in this country and in these times, would do well to be mindful of the reason for the existence of those thousands of graves before it's too late.

Sales success
The DeFuniak Springs Friends of the Library would like to thank all the contributors and supporters of our book sales.
Through your support we have been able to purchase a new library table and eight chairs. We also received a donation from Ms. Marcie Brodbeck to purchase cushions for the new chairs.
The economy in today's world has placed an increase of usage in all libraries across the country. Our librarian, Dan Owens, and his dedicated staff have experienced the increase as well. Realizing the increase of the needs of the community we are presently working from a "wish list" to help provide some additional items for the library.
Now is the time to stock up on your summer reading at our book sale on June 6. If you can't make this sale, mark your calendars for our next sale on Sept. 19.
