Special to The Sun
Seagrove Beach resident Beeb Benson is known for her whimsical works of art.

Foundation announces winner of 15th Annual Destin Festival of the Arts Poster Competition

Beeb Benson was selected as the 2010 Destin Festival of the Arts poster winner. The winning artwork becomes the signature image for the festival posters, T-shirts and other merchandise.

For the past eight years, Benson has been painting colorful and whimsical dogs, cats, fish, and other animals with acrylics on wood. For the poster contest, however, she submitted one of her first collage pieces; a medium to which she has been transitioning this summer. Benson incorporates acrylics, oil pastel, screen, fabric, paper, and whatever else is within arm’s reach into her collages. She says that no piece seems complete without a touch of whimsy, her trademark. Her work can be seen in local galleries and at www.beebbensonarts.com. Benson resides in Seagrove Beach with her husband, Rick, her mom, Dody and Ollie, her dog and studio assistant.

Festival merchandise with Benson’s signature artwork will be on sale at the 15th Annual Destin Festival of the Arts along with commemorative posters from past years. Nearly 100 premier artists from the United States have been juried into this fine art show competing for over $8,500 in cash prizes.  This multi-cultural festival features children’s art activities, live music, strolling performers and a bistro food court to entertain the entire family. The Destin Festival of the Arts will be held on Oct. 23 and 24 at Henderson Beach State Park. For more festival information, visit online at www.mattiekellyartsfoundation.org or call 850-650-2226.
