Gardening and flowers on the calendar for Seagrove Garden Club
The 47th year of the Seagrove Garden Club will be a celebration of gardening and flowers. All programs will be focused on how to garden in our local area. From fountains and holistic gardens to containers and also the use of flowers in arrangements and holiday décor, it will be a year to celebrate Mother Nature and all she has to offer.
The first meeting and luncheon will be held at 11 a.m. Sept. 8 at Café 30-A in Seagrove Beach. The speaker will be Tim Ryan of Botaniq Floral Studio of Grayton Beach. His “Bunches to Bouquets” presentation will focus on floral design. Lunch will be served and Harriet Crommelin has promised not to disappoint.
On Oct.13 the program will focus on creating beautiful container gardens. Debbie Piltchner of H&S Nursery and Supply will present “Seasonal Container Gardening.” The meeting and lunch will be held at Bayou Bills on U.S. 98.
In November the club welcomes back Russ Barley of Emerald Coast Florist. It is always standing-room-only when Barley speaks and demonstrates how to create elegant holiday arrangements. For the Nov. 10 event, the club will meet at Wild Heron.
The Holiday program and lunch on Dec. 8 is a tradition as well. The December program is the gift auction the club sponsors to raise money for people and charities that are in need during the holidays. This past year more than $4,600 was raised and helped deliver Christmas to many families in the community. This year the event will be held at Point Washington Methodist Church Fellowship Hall and the auction is guaranteed to be fun and exciting.
After the first of the year, on Jan.12, Keen Polakoff will deliver a program, “Palms and Fruits of Passion.” For this event Carrabba’s Italian Grill in Destin will host the club. Then on Feb. 9 the club will return to George and Ann Hartley’s La Cocina in Seacrest Beach and on March 9 Eden Gardens State Park. On April 13 the club will tour local gardens and May 11 the new officer installation lunch will be held at Tim Creehan’s Cuvee Bistro in Destin.
The cost to attend each meeting, program and lunch will vary with the location but usually $18 for members and $23 for non-members. Reservations are required for all meetings. In addition to these programs and venues, the club also offers trips outside of the area to view other gardens or special events. If you would like to attend a meeting or would like more information on membership, contact Shari Roberts, membership chair, at 267-9586.
