India Hicks unveiled her new line of jewelry at Studio b in Alys Beach last week

India Hicks, a member of Britain's royal family and an heir to the British throne, chose South Walton's Studio b as the venue in which to unveil her new line of jewelry.

Hicks' pedigree also includes: granddaughter of the last viceroy of India, Lord Mountbatten, and goddaughter of Prince Charles, and daughter of iconic interior designer David Hicks.

If that were not enough, Hicks recently received attention because of the wedding of Prince William. Hicks was a bridesmaid in the wedding of William's mum and pop.

"What I remember most of Princess Diana is the way she smelled," said Hicks. "She wore the scent of tea rose. It was a strong, potent smell, sweet and strong at the same time."

Studio b owner Colleen Duffley hosted Hicks at Studio b Wednesday night. The jewelry designer and model was on hand to mingle with guests and discuss her jewelry line, which was displayed and available for purchase.

Using mainly sterling silver and diamonds, Hicks produces one-of-a-kind pieces that are inspired by her island lifestyle in the Bahamas, where she resides.

Using geometric lines as her starting point, Hicks said most designs begin as sketches on whatever pieces of paper are at hand — such as an envelope — and approximately 18 months later, end up as unique fashion accessories to which she proudly lends her name.

From privileged royal birth to model to jewelry designer, Hicks feels it is a natural progression, and one that ultimately was her biological destiny.

"My grandfather was the great-great grandson of Queen Victoria and he inherited some beautiful pieces of jewelry. My father designed jewelry and my family all collected jewelry, so, it was in my DNA to do this," she said.

But from conception to the end result being on her arm, she likens the creative process behind the jewelry to "agony and the ecstasy," because she takes it personally. "I had no idea when I began of how sterling works with diamonds."

Now she does.

Hicks' one-of-a-kind pieces are available at Bloomingdale's, and she hopes an outlet in South Walton will also pick up and offer her designs.
