Juvenile arrested for aggravated assault

On Oct. 21, 2009, DeFuniak Springs Police Officers were dispatched to an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon by a juvenile.

Upon arrival, Officers made contact with Shayne Betts, the care giver to two juveniles involved in this incident. The investigation revealed that a 12-year old juvenile was in the kitchen area of the residence and pulled a knife from the drawer pointing it towards another juvenile that is in the care of Mrs. Betts. According to the victim, the 12-year old juvenile started making aggressive movements towards the other juvenile asking him to say something else.

Statements were also obtained from the victim, a 16 year of age juvenile, who states that the 12-year old juvenile removed a knife from the kitchen drawer and made advances towards him with the knife in hand.

Officers arrested the 12-year old juvenile for felony charge aggravated assault with a deadly weapon describe in Florida State Statute 784.021(1)a. The juvenile was transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice Correctional Facility, Crestview, for holding until court appearance.
