Navarre threatens Tate before Aggies take over in second half

The Tate football team took control in the second half to defeat Navarre 31-14 on Friday in District 1-4A action.

Tate improved to 6-3 overall and 3-2 in the district with the victory. Navarre, meanwhile, dropped to 2-7 and 1-4 in league play.

The Aggies needed a win from Milton over Pace to force a three-team playoff for the second spot in the district, but Pace was able to beat Milton.

The Raiders led 14-8 at halftime, but Tate scored the final 23 points of the game. Tate regained the lead with 13 points in the third quarter.

Bradley Leggett caught a 17-yard touchdown pass from Andrew Velazquez to give Navarre a 14-8 lead in the second quarter, but Navarre wouldn’t score again.

Michael Pettus led Navarre with 67 yards rushing on eight carries. Velazquez completed 8-of-14 passes for 83 yards.

Tate quarterback Edwin Richburg only needed five passing attempts to throw for 83 yards and two touchdowns.

Navarre will close its season by playing at rival Gulf Breeze.
