Niceville's Carr honored by Vanderbilt University

When Anna Carr decided to attend Vanderbilt University, it was clear she wanted to be a student-athlete in the strictest sense.

The former Niceville track and field standout is doing just that, recently being named one part of the university’s Student-Athletes of the Month.

According to the school’s Web site, the winners are selected on the basis of the all-around student-athlete: effort and excellence in academics, leadership, integrity, dedication to team, campus involvement, community service, and the ability to serve as role models for current and future Vanderbilt students and student-athletes.

"Anna is a terrific young lady and a very hard-working student," Academic Counselor Max Martin said on the Web site. "Once she caught her rhythm in the classroom at Vanderbilt, she began to show potential and has begun to blossom as a student. I believe that Anna will demonstrate continued academic success and is well deserving of this honor."

While Carr dealt with leg injuries midway through the indoor season, which hindered her outdoor season, she made an immediate impact on Vanderbilt’s track program by running a school-record 7.65 seconds in the 60-meter dash in her first indoor meet.
