The Niceville softball team scored four runs with two outs in the seventh inning to escape with an 8-7 victory Tuesday over Mosley in District 2-5A action.

Carrie Laird won it for Niceville (9-0, 4-0) with a two-run single. It was the sixth hit of the inning for Niceville, which trailed 7-1 in the fourth inning.

Kaylan Davis went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. She had an RBI single in the seventh and so did Haley Early.

Shannon Brinkley was 3-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs, while Karen Starnes and Meagan Balding had two hits apiece.

Jessa Watts got the win after pitching three innings of relief and striking out four.

Niceville plays host to Milton on Thursday.

Rocky Bayou Christian 24, Poplar Springs 1: Brittany Tiller had two home runs, including a grand slam, and eight RBIs as the Knights rolled in District 1-A play.

In addition to her home runs, Tiller also had a triple. Katie Kaim went 2-for-2 with four runs, and Samantha Holcomb was the winning pitcher.

The Knights (2-2, 2-2) play host to Paxton on Thursday.

Freeport 11, Ponce De Leon 1 (5 innings): The Bulldogs (2-6, 2-3) jumped out to an early lead and made quick work of Ponce De Leon.

Taylor Mills and Taylor Taunton each had two hits, while Megan Seibert drove in two runs. Mills, Taunton, Alyssa Duross and Jordan Howell each scored two runs.

The Bulldogs play at Baker on Thursday.

South Walton 3, Vernon 1: Shelby Watson struck out 17 batters in seven innings to lead the Seahawks (11-1, 8-0 in District 2-2A) over Vernon. Mackenzie Watson paced the offense with three hits.

South Walton plays at home against Holmes County on Thursday.

Choctawhatchee 9, Gulf Breeze 1: Michelle Eubanks scattered four hits from the circle and went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBIs at the plate to help the Indians move to 3-2 in District 1-4A play with a win on Monday.

Jennifer Vachoun went 3-for-4 with an RBI, a double and two singles and Morgan Brazel finished 2-for-3. Kiersten Denny went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Choctaw (3-9) travels to West Florida Tech on Thursday.

 

Baseball

Paxton 6, Central 5: The Bobcats rallied for two runs in the 10th inning to secure the victory on Monday.

Will Hutchinson tied the game with a sacrifice fly and Drew Cawthon ended it with an RBI single.

Josh McLane got the win after pitching two innings in relief, and Zach Forehand was 2-for-3 for the Bobcats.

Boaz (Ala.) 4, Choctawhatchee 2: The Indians couldn’t recover after allowing three runs in the first inning.

Cody Brannen had three hits for Choctaw (5-6), while Tanner Black and Miguel Paulino had two apiece.

Choctaw plays host to Dothan (Ala.) tonight.

Fort Walton Beach 5, Good Pasture (Tenn.) 4: J.D. Little walked with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh to complete a comeback win for the Vikings over the visitors from Nashville, Tenn.

The Vikings (6-2) scored four runs in the seventh to erase a three-run deficit. Little and Blake Becnell hit solo home runs, while Phillip Gabes had an RBI and two doubles.

The Vikings play today against an opponent to be determined.

Holmes County 6, South Walton 2: After taking a 2-1 lead in the second inning, the Seahawks (7-4, 2-2) couldn’t get much else going at the plate.

Jonathan Duncan and Rex Rutledge each went 2-for-3 to lead the South Walton offense.

The Seahawks play at Sneads on Friday.

Crestview 13, Tuscaloosa County (Ala.) 3: Kameron Miller had two doubles and three RBIs to lead the Bulldogs (6-2).

Nick Brown also had three hits and Tyler Henderson added a pair of hits, including a solo home run.

Crestview plays at Pace on Thursday.

Laurel Hill 18, Rocky Bayou 1: Laurell Hill’s offense was quite efficient, pounding out 18 hits.

Dalton Gordon and Ryan Simmons each went 3-for-5, while Zeb Strickland went 3-for-4 and Chris Korleski went 3-for-4 to lead the Hoboes (3-1). Ethan Jackson pitched all five innings while striking out 10 and walking none.

The Hoboes play at Florala on Thursday.

Baker 15, JZ George (Miss.) 5: Dakota Josey picked up the victory and also homered and doubled for the Gators.

Josh Lawson went 4-for-5, Alston Derrick was 3-for-3 and Will Lock added two hits for Baker (8-4), which plays host to Freeport on Friday.

Track and field

In a four-team meet at Crestview, the Bulldog boys collected 106 points to defeat Choctawhatchee (58), Baker (30) and Florala (four), while the Baker girls were victorious with 85 points while Crestview was second (49), Choctaw third (46) and Florala fourth (four).

Aaron Nelson and Darius Madison paced the Bulldogs on the boys side with two victories each. Nelson won in the 100 and 200, and Madison claimed victories in the long jump and triple jump.

Donquel Dorsey (400), Jacob Gourlie (1600) and Sanchez (3200) also notched wins for Crestview. The 4x100 relay team also won.

Winning on the boys side for Choctaw were Charlie Lott (discus, shot put), Andrew Silsbee (800) and Stephan Quinth (high jump). The 4x800 and 4x400 relay teams were also victorious.

Notching wins for Baker on the girls side were Haley Wagner (high jump, 800), Morgan Jones (discus), Cassidy Anderson (400, triple jump), Kathryn Quigg (100 hurdles) and Bethany Chestnut (300). The Gators also won the 4x800 relay and the 4x400 relay.

Asten Lopez notched three first places (long jump, 100, 200) and had a standout meet for Crestview, as did Lauren Day, who tallied two wins (1600, 3200). Crestview also won the 4x100 relay.

 

Tennis

The Fort Walton Beach tennis teams swept a match with Niceville, winning the girls match 4-3 and the boys match 6-1.

Notching wins in singles play for the Vikings teams were Stephanie Pridgen, Savannah Hagan, Drew Morrison, Andrew Decotis, Taylor Clark and Moe Streed. Winning in doubles play for Fort Walton Beach were the teams of Dani Adams-Pridgen, Ali Adams-Phillyn Frederick, Morrison-Clark and Decotis-Howard Hennessey.

Notching singles victories for Niceville were Andrea Kovacs, Bellina LeMoel, Monique Kessler and Eric Shievinan.

 

The Choctawhatchee tennis teams were swept by Mosley, falling 4-3 on the boys side and 6-1 on the girls side.

Will Boyt and McKennon Griffin won in singles play and combined for a doubles victory. Isabella Gustave also won in singles play for the Indians.

 

The Walton boys tennis team defeated Bozeman 4-3 on Tuesday, while the girls split their match 3-3.

Jeremiah Johnson, Hunter Kirby and Brady Davis picked up wins in boys singles, while Johnson and Davis also won their doubles match in a tiebreaker.

The girls only played four singles matches and got wins from Peyton Raggan and Nikki Gavin. Caroline Manning and Julia Duong won their doubles match to secure the split.
