LOUIS LONG

Louis L Long, Jr., "Lou," will always be our friend, and he will always be missed. Lou left us without notice on Friday, May 22, 2009 at Sacred Heart Hospital. He lived in Freeport, Fla., with his wife, Marie, and among countless friends and admirers.

Lou and Marie have been a matched set since 1970, when they met at the docks in Destin, Fla. Lou was a young Air Force sergeant who caught Marie's attention with a big fish.

Lou was different from the rest of the world in wonderful ways. Unlike those who found it difficult to love, Lou loved life and almost everything it had to offer. He was a photographer with published magazine covers, raised award-winning roses and was an expert marksman. He acquired a vast knowledge of the things he loved -- cigars, tequila, his Harley Davidson, salt-water fishing and hosting pig roasts. But Lou most cherished his role of loving father and husband.

Lou began his distinguished law career at the University of Virginia at age 16, and finished at Florida State Law School class of 1979 with honors. Lou worked as assistant to the Federal Bankruptcy Court and went on to become an A-rated lawyer as a private practitioner in Tallahassee. Most recently he was a treasured and beloved partner in the local law firm of Chesser and Barr, P.A., Shalimar, Fla.

Lou leaves many friends, associates, and a large and loving family. His surviving family includes wife, Marie Long; sons, John and Michael Long of Tallahassee; daughter-in-law, Lisa Long; and granddaughter, Lain; father, Louis L Long, Sr. of Richmond, Va.; sisters, Linda Long Will of Tallahassee, and Dianna Hurt of Richmond, Va.; niece, Kaitlin Hurt; and nephew, Graham L Hurt of Richmond; mother-in-law, Helen Gainer of Shalimar, Fla.

A Celebration of Life was held Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at Clary-Glenn funeral home in Freeport, Fla.

Clary-Glenn Freeport Chapel Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
