Prep Roundup (3/11)

Shelby Watson had a no-hitter through six innings and drove in two runs to lead the South Walton softball team to a 3-0 victory Thursday over Bozeman in District 2-2A play.

Watson struck out 13 and walked none, losing her no-hitter in the seventh inning. Mackenzie Watson and Megan MacLeod both had two hits for the Seahawks (9-1, 7-0) and MacLeod had an RBI.

South Walton plays at Graceville today.

Fort Walton Beach 6, Tate 2: Freshman Rachael Dehlinger pitched all seven innings while striking out four to lead the Vikings (7-2). Jennifer Phillips went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Jamie Phillips also drove in a pair of runs and Brianna DeGennaro knocked in another.

Fort Walton Beach will play at Crestview on Tuesday.

Paxton 6, Bethlehem 2: Kristyn Geiselman had a huge day for the Bobcats (5-1, 4-0 in District 1-A), going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple and two runs scored. Brittany Kimmons helped out by going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Paxton will play a non-district game at Florala on Saturday.

Baseball

Laurel Hill 19, Poplar Springs 0: Zeb Strickland crushed a grand slam and three-run homer while tallying eight RBIs in the Hoboes’ District 1-A victory.

Travon Calloway belted a three-run homer, Chris Korleski had three hits and Dalton Gordon added two. Ethan Jackson and Boomer Simmons combined to throw a one-hitter while striking out 11 for Laurel Hill (1-1, 1-0).

Laurel Hill plays today at Bethlehem.

Niceville 7, Lovett (Ga.) 3:Michael Wells had a double, a home run and four RBIs to lead Niceville (6-0). Kyle Kennedy also went 2-for-2 and Josh Gordon went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and a sacrifice fly. Hunter Phillips won on the mound.

 

Baker 7, Paxton 3: Anthony Heath pitched all seven innings for Baker (5-4), striking out seven while walking one. Josh Lawson hit a three-run double in the sixth to power the Gators’ offense. Bucky Lock also smacked a two-run homer for Baker.

 

Crestview 12, Chipley 4: Cameron Miller collected a pair of hits, one of which was a home run, and drove in three and Trevor Carnahan had a two-run triple as the Bulldogs (5-2) cruised.

 

Tennis

Archrivals Choctawhatchee and Fort Walton Beach split in tennis action, with the Indian boys edging the Vikings 4-3 and the Fort Walton Beach girls claiming a 5-2 win.

Jordan Coker won his singles match and combined with Ara Walker for the clinching doubles victory. Will Boyt and Brandon Jowers also won in singles play for Choctaw, while the Vikings got victories from Drew Morrison and Xavior Gorham and the doubles team of Andrew Decotis/Howard Hennessy.

Dani Adams, Stephanie Pridgen, Phillyn Frederick and Savannah Hagan each registered singles victories for the Fort Walton Beach girls, with Adams and Pridgen also teaming for a doubles win. Emily Bennett won her singles match and combined with Kingon Walker for a doubles victory.

The Walton tennis teams earned a sweep over Freeport, capturing 5-2 victories on both sides.

Curtis Miller, Tray Virgin, Luke Andrews and Aaron Ealum all won in boys singles action to clinch the Braves’ win. David Geraldo and the doubles team of Alex Newkirk/Ryan McLeod won for Freeport.

On the girls side, Liza Ingram, Julia Duong, Elizabeth Evans and Karmel Teves each secured singles victories for the Braves to lock up the win. Nikki Blalock won in singles play for Freeport, as did Stephanie Morrison and Katelyn Cuchens in doubles action.

Weightlifting

Niceville 46, Choctawhatchee 38: The Eagles posted seven first-place finishes in defeating their county rival.

Joey Forgione (119-pound class, lifted 340 pounds), Dylan McKinney (129, 400), David Jones (139, 495), Roy Finch (169, 560), Trenton Kilbey (219, 530), Joey Collins (238, 585) and Charles Phillips (Heavyweight, 700 pounds) all topped their weight classes.

Capturing first for Choctaw was Cedric Bridgewater (154, 510), Charlie Lott (183, 605) and Paul Spikes (199, 610).

 

Fort Walton Beach 69, Crestview 28, Baker 13: The Vikings fell just one win shy of sweeping the three-team meet.

Cody Sprouse (119-pound class, lifted 360 pounds), Seth Bowling (129, 420), Alfred Seabrook (139, 450), Chase Adams (154, 475), Tommy Bowling (169, 590), Tae Kang (183, 590), Jon Castro (199, 580), Carl Blanco (219, 640) and Loy Williams (238, 630) all earned first-place honors in their weight classes.

Host Crestview’s Allen Caldwell (Heavyweight, 650) was the only lifter from another school to post a win.
