Prep Roundup (3/17)

Brandee Reyna went 3-for-3 at the plate and connected for her first home run of the season Wednesday as the Fort Walton Beach softball team blanked Ridgeland (Miss.) in a 5-0 win.

Jennifer Phillips went 3-for-4 at the plate while starting pitcher Briana DeGennaro struck out six and did not allow a run to notch the win for the Vikings.

Fort Walton Beach (9-2) returns to District 2-5A play when it hosts Mosley on Friday.

Baseball

Fort Walton Beach 16, Lee Scott Academy 5 (Ala.) (5 innings): J.D. Little drove in four runs and Phillip Gabes went 3-for-3 with three runs batted in as the Vikings cruised past Lee Scott.

Austin Sullivan went 2-for-3 with three RBIs on a night in which all but two Vikings in the starting lineup registered a hit.

Fort Walton Beach (7-2) returns to District 2-5A play on Saturday when the Vikings play host to Crestview.

Dothan (Ala.) 6, Choctawhatchee 0: The Indians (5-7) couldn’t find their offense against the visitors from Alabama and made four errors in the loss.

Choctaw hosts Milton on Tuesday.

Freeport 16, University Christian (Tenn.) 0, 5 innings: Jake Fannin had a pair of hits while Cole Weeks, Michael Graziani and Drew Porter each had singles as the Bulldogs cruised past University Christian.

Freeport (1-3) hosts Paxton on Thursday.

 

Tennis

Crestview enjoyed a pair of dominating performances on the court, with both its boys and girls teams notching one-sided wins over Pine Forest.

Moya Moore, Jackie Henners, Brooklyn Howard, Sydney Pinkert and Brittany Didonato all notched singles wins for the Bulldogs (6-3) while the teams of Moore/Howard and Hanners/Pinkert completed the shutout for Crestview in doubles’ action.

On the boys' side, Crestview (4-5) received singles wins from Blake Ritchie, Paul Tilley, Mitch Petosky and John-Seth Sammons and doubles wins from Ritchie and Josh MacDonald as well as the duo of Ben Baber and Corey Peaden.

Crestview hosts Navarre today.

Track and field

The Fort Walton Beach boys and girls track and field teams each enjoyed victories on Tuesday, winning a tri-meet at Navarre.

On the girls’ side, the Vikings rolled to 82 team points, easily besting Navarre (54) and Gulf Breeze (42) thanks to multiple first-place finishes by Kadijah Mount (100 hurdles, 16.5; 300 hurdles, 52.7) and Morgan McLaughlin (shot put, 30-8; discus, 103-7). Iolani Scanlan (1600, 5:45), Shakia Morris (400, 1:05) and Lizzy Gallagher (3200, 12:50) also won their respective events for the Vikings.

Fort Walton Beach’s boys defeated Navarre by 19, winning 81.5-62.5. Gulf Breeze (34) finished third.

Stephen Haye (100-meter run, 16.25), Matt Bevil (800-meter run, 1:59.4), Kevin Bryant (200-meter run, 23.01), Joe Lofton (long jump, 18-11) and Josh Simmons (shot put, 44-4) each placed first in their events for the Vikings.

Seth Nydam (300 hurdles, 41.33), Ezra Robinson (triple jump, 43-5) and Robert Mann (3200, 10:06) were among the individual winners for the Raiders.

 

Weightlifting

 South Walton 45, Walton 31, Vernon 22: The Seahawks received first place finishes from Jeremy Clark (119-pound weight division, 265 pounds lifted), Keith Stewart (199, 480), Bryant Adams (219, 530), Chris Manzaneras (238, 470) and Ivan Lucero (Heavyweight, 560) to win their tri-meet.

Walton’s Kenan Atabey won the 139-pound division with a combined lift of 340 pounds while teammate Martin Lillard won the 169-pound class with a lift of 395.

 

Niceville 40, Choctawhatchee 36, Crestview 25: Niceville had five lifters win their respective classes as the Eagles edged Choctawhatchee in a tri-meet at Crestview.

Joey Forgione (119-pound class, 355), David Jones (139, 475), Roy Finch (169, 560), Joey Collins (238, 585) and Charles Phillips (Heavyweight, 720) each finished first in their respective class for the Eagles. Choctaw’s Cedric Bridgewater (505 pounds) won the 154-pound division while teammates Charlie Lott (183, 600) and Paul Spikes (199, 615) also won for the Indians.

Chris Holderness (129, 350) and Cody Swenbeck (219, 630) finished first for the Bulldogs.
