Baker's volleyball team earned a hard-fought victory over Vernon on Tuesday, giving first-year coach Lisa Roy her first win.

The Gators downed Vernon in three sets, winning 26-24, 25-21, 25-13 to claim the District 1-2A win.

Lauren Griffith led Baker (1-2 overall, 1-1 district) with 26 assists, while Kaylee Bradley had a team-high 11 kills.

 

Scores: 26-24, 25-21, 25-13

l Walton 3, Cottondale 0: Betsy Stevenson paced the Braves (6-2) in the sweep with nine kills and 11 assists

Caiti Stewart and Delaney Bell added eight kills apiece, and Devin Richardson had 11 assists.

l Rocky Bayou 3, Laurel Hill 1: Allison van de Voorde scored 16 points on six aces to help push Rocky Bayou to a 3-1 win over Laurel Hill to move to 3-0 on the year and open district play with a win. Kathryn Rogers added eight kills.

l Holmes County 3, South Walton 0: South Walton got better as the match wore on, but the Seahawks could not take a game in falling in straight sets.

Hope Goodwin had seven aces, three blocks and four kills to lead the Seahawks, who dropped to 0-6.

Boys golf

l Choctawhatchee 317, Niceville 336, Crestview 385: Brandon Jowers shot a low score of 72 to help pace Choctawhatchee Tuesday at Shalimar Point in a win over Niceville and Crestview to move the Indians to 3-1.

Crestview's Mike Taylor had the next lowest score with a 78. Jowers' teammate, Ryan Mahan, was the only other player to reach the 70s, firing a 79 on the day.

 

Choctaw: Brandon Jowers 72, Ryan Mahan 79, Trey Henderson 83, Kevin Lamson 83.

Niceville: Michael Postgate 83, Dalton Young 83, Cody Sims 84.

Crestview: Mike Taylor 78, Anthony Perez 88, Cory Peden 103, Anthony Lott 106.

l Walton 161, Holmes County 190, Marianna 197: Walton claimed the top three low scores at DeFuniak Springs Country Club to improve the Braves to 4-2.

Paul McClure was the low medalist with a 34, while Heath Morgan carded a 40 and Devin Partridge had a 42.

Girls golf

l Niceville 181, Fort Walton Beach 210, Choctawhatchee 216: Jaime Jordan grabbed low medalist honors with a 37 as the Eagles easily won in a nine-hole competition at Bluewater Bay.

Joy Armbrester, also of Niceville, had the second-lowest score with a 44. Fort Walton Beach was led by Ally Davis' 49, while Lyndsey Chappell paced Choctaw with a 48. Crestview's top scorer was Kenna Rogers with a 64, but the Bulldogs did not have enough people for a team score.

FWB: Ally Davis 49, Rachel Struzinski 53, Summer Struzinski 53, Caroline Hudson 55.

l Navarre 222, Escambia 250: Rachel Glenn shot a 48 to lead Navarre to a win over Escambia. Chandler Bridges shot a 54.

Navarre returns to action Thursday when they travel to Crestview.
