Local AAU hoops team wins Showdown Classic

The Panhandle Select Triple Threat, which is comprised of basketball players from Paxton, Walton, Freeport and Ponce de Leon, recently won the Summer Hoops Showdown Classic championship held at the University of West Florida.

On Saturday, Panhandle Select defeated Breeze Basketball 52-17 and the travel-weary Alabama Tornadoes 61-44. Panhandle Select followed Sunday with a 52-19 win over Baker and defeated the Tornadoes 70-63 in the championship game.

In the title game, Panhandle Select was down 38-27 at halftime before outscoring the Tornadoes 24-14 in the third quarter and controlling the fourth quarter.

Team members for the Panhandle Select are Magen Adams, Aubrey Anderson, Laura Ashley Anderson, Krysten Cuchens, Alyssa Dupree, Callie Godwin, Gillian Infinger, Tori Lincoln, Jasmine Moore, Lynn Paulk, Catherine Trotman and Erin Walker.

The team is coached by Ken Meisner.
