New Board of Directors to be selected at final meeting of Destin Snowbirds

This will be the last Destin Snowbird article for this winter. By next weekend most of you will be on your way home far from sunny Destin and your favorite beach.

At our last meeting on Tues, March 11, our new Board of Directors for the 2008-2009 season will be elected. The nominees are: President, Jack Ballinger; 1st Vice President, Marge Marcella; 2nd Vice President, Bill Wilkinson; Secretary, Joan Graham; Treasurer, Harry Goggins. If there is anyone who would like to become Publicity Director and be a member of the Board, please talk to Ken Yee or a present Board member at this meeting. There is only one meeting at 10 am.

A special entertainment has been planned for this last meeting. They have been working very hard to present a large screen slide show of all you "Snowbirds In Action" during this past winter. Not to miss! All the remaining door prizes will be awarded too.

The Friendship Club will meet for lunch at the Golden Corral after this meeting.

The Storage Lockers will be open on Saturdays from 8 - 9:30 am until March 29. Tickets are $7 per box. Call Jim Galea at 651-2077. He will be selling the tickets at the last meeting.

About 100 of our volunteers attended the Volunteer Appreciation Lunch at the Lighthouse on Sunday. For many years this has been the Club's way to show these workers how much they are appreciated. This is a club of volunteers and could not operate without them. Lifetime Membership badges for meritorious service were presented to Marg Craig, Ron Mathews and Kitty Phelps.

The Nine Hole Golf League played their last weekly game on Feb. 29 and the Shalimar Pointe staff prepared a meal of grilled hamburgers and hot dogs for all the golfers. This little league is proving to be a great addition to our activity list.

It is time to bid you all goodbye, my friends. After five years of keeping you all informed, via the newspapers and the web site, I am retiring as Publicity Director. I have been a member of the Destin Snowbird Club for 20 years, have chaired many events, am a Past President and, because of this, have worked with so many wonderful people and made so many friends that this Club has enriched my life for all those years. Thank you!
