Niceville-Valparaiso waits out rain, wins opener on Saturday

Staff report

The Niceville-Valparaiso Little League Senior League All-Star Team just keeps on rolling.

After enduring a three-hour rain delay on Saturday in the Niceville-Valparaiso-hosted senior league state tourney, the NVLL Senior squad, comprised of ages 14-16, thrashed Union Park 10-1 behind a stellar complete-game effort from Cory Eller.

Kyle McDorman led the charge from the plate and turned in a perfect 4-for-4 day.

Due to the delay, the NVLL Senior team’s second game against Largo was pushed back to 9 p.m., past the Daily News’ press time.

The winner of that second contest will move onto the Southern Region tournament in Suntree beginning on Aug. 7, and the winner of that tournament advances to the Senior League Baseball World Series beginning on Aug. 15. The loser will see its summer season end.
