Donations needed for successful Santa's Patrol
DeFUNIAK SPRINGS – With the holiday season approaching, the Walton County Sheriff’s Office continues to seek donations from area businesses for the department’s annual Santa Patrol.
In a press release issued Friday, Lt. Eddie Farris, the Sheriff’s Office citizen’s service commander, thanked local Wal-Mart store manager Chris Wilcox for a recent donation.
“Wal-Mart has always been proactive when it comes to helping important charity drives like the Santa Patrol during the Christmas Season,” Wilcox said in the release. “The spirit of giving back to the community was an important philosophy of Wal-Mart founder, the late Sam Walton.”
Farris, who is heading the Santa Patrol, said in the release that with so many parents having to cut back on household expenses, “children are often the ones who suffer the most.”
Last year, the Santa Patrol helped generate enough funds to buy toys for about 200 children. But Farris said he fears the sluggish economy will result in a dramatic decline in donations this year.
To make a donation, address a check to Wal-Mart/Walton County Sheriff’s Office, and mail it to Lt. Eddie Farris, Citizen Services; Walton County Sheriff’s Office, 752 Triple G Rd., DeFuniak Springs, Fl 32435.
