Got wheels? Able to deliver meals?

The South Walton Senior Center on County Road 393N needs volunteers.

"Do you have a couple of hours and want to help others?" asks Laura Rust.

Laura, her husband Bobby Rust and John Horton are regular volunteers at the Center that help serve a hot lunch to South Walton senior citizens.

While most residents drop in for lunch, to play a hand or two of cards and to visit with friends, there are some seniors that no longer drive. It's those home-bound residents that need a volunteer to bring them a meal.

"The whole idea is we have some people that can't get out much," Horton said. "Volunteers make the deliveries."

It's not just about taking a meal to a neighbor, Horton said. During the brief visits, volunteers check on the residents and socialize a bit.

The Center opens at 11 a.m. and volunteers start preparing to-go meals about 11:30 a.m.

For more information, call the Center at (850) 622-0917.
