Braves place 4th, Seahawks 5th at boys golf regional
Both the Walton and South Walton boys golf teams came up short in their bid to advance to next week’s Class A state tournament.
Behind a round of 76 from Paul McClure, Walton finished fourth as a team with a score of 321 on Wednesday in the Region 1-A tournament at A.C. Read in Pensacola.
The Braves edged South Walton (324), which received a pair of 76s from Jordan Corchis and Dylan Smith to finish fifth.
Pensacola Catholic (304) won the tournament, narrowly clipping Wakulla (306) by two strokes on the day. Both advance to the state tournament, which takes place Tuesday and Wednesday at Juliette Falls, A Golf & Spa Community in Dunnellon.
Maclay finished third at 316.
Wakulla’s Spencer Smith won a three-way playoff to secure medalist honors after he, Port St. Joe’s Grant Rish and Maclay’s Hunter Mall each fired a 72.
Both Rish and Mall will advance to the state finals as individuals.
Walton’s scorecard was rounded out by Clay Cawthon (80), Devin Partridge (81) and Curtis Miller (84). South Walton received an 85 from Billy Davis while Shawn Howard (87) also finished in the 80s.
