Store break-in

A long time retail establishment in eastern Walton County has been burglarized for the second time within six-months. Walton County Sheriff's Investigators spent several hours processing the scene of this latest break-in.

It's believed the burglar, or burglars broke through the front, sliding glass doors of Melhorn's Mini Mart between four and six o'clock this morning. The suspect took an undisclosed amount of cash, lottery tickets, and grocery items.  He also maliciously busted several inside windows, and strewn food items across the floor.

Melhorn's is located along U.S. Highway 90 in the Argyle Community, near the Holmes County line. Fred and Rita Melhorn own the business. Mrs. Melhorn says “coming into work and seeing such destruction is a total, helpless feeling. It's a feeling of being violated”. Last July, a burglar pried open the same sliding glass doors to gain entry into the business.

This morning a person reported to the Sheriff's Office that she saw one or more vehicles outside the business around four o'clock this morning.

If anyone has information on the Melhorn break-in, you are urged to call the Walton County Sheriff's Office at 892-8111, or the Crimestoppers of Walton County toll free number at 1-866-718-8477.
