Women accused of assaulting pregnant witness
SOUTHPORT — A three-month-pregnant woman who is a witness in a drug case against her ex-boyfriend, told Bay County Sheriff’s Office deputies she was beaten up by the ex-boyfriend’s wife and sister Friday evening.
Rebecca H. Nelson, 26, of Americus, Ga. and Nicole Nelson, 30, address unavailable, have been charged with aggravated battery and tampering with a witness in connection with the incident.
According to an incident report, Kimberly Harris told deputies that Nicole Nelson — her ex-boyfriend Jerry Nelson’s sister — came to her home to talk about Jerry Nelson’s arrest earlier in the day. The two women talked in a yard in Southport shortly before 9 p.m. Rebecca Nelson, Jerry Nelson’s wife who drove Nicole to Harris’ residence, approached the women and hit Harris on the side of the head while she was talking to Nicole Nelson. Harris said Rebecca Nelson then pushed her into a car and continued to hit her in the head and face and tried to slice her with a knife. Harris said Rebecca Nelson also restrained her while Nicole Nelson kneed her several times in the stomach.
EMS took Harris to Gulf Coast Medical Center, according to the report. While driving to the hospital, the responding deputy spoke with Investigator Gary Schell, who told him Harris was a witness in a case against Jerry Nelson. Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Ruth Corley said Jerry Nelson was charged with possession of methamphetamine with the intent to sell or distribute, manufacturing methamphetamine and possession of narcotic equipment on Friday.
According to another incident report, Harris on Friday also accused Jerry Nelson of fraudulently using her credit card.
At the hospital, according to the report, Harris said she had extreme pain in her abdomen. She also was dizzy and vomited. The report also noted Harris’ left temple and right eye were bruised and swollen and she had a large bruise on her back between her shoulder blades along with several scratches and small cuts.
Corley said there were no injuries to Harris’ unborn child.
