Julie Dorathy is having a great year and has no intention of slowing down! Entering the third quarter of 2013, she already has $5.2 million in closed and pending sales, with another $1.85 million in active listings.
Oddly enough, she doesn’t feel like she’s a salesperson. Julie uses her common sense approach and aims to help her customers. Furthermore, she has the numbers to prove that what she’s doing is working.
Julie has been with what is now Prudential Pen Fed Realty since she began her career in real estate in 2001.
“I’ve seen the good, the bad, and the ugly,” says Julie. “The market is absolutely rebounding, and the last two years have been quite successful.”
In 2007 - 2008, the real estate market was going through a downturn and Julie was one of the first agents in the area to become a short sale specialist.
“Short sales were tough to deal with, and very complicated,” she said.
But through her sheer determination combined with dedication in providing her clients with the highest degree of professionalism, Julie found success and survived a very difficult time.
“It wasn’t uncommon to get multiple calls per week on short-sale listings and the process was very difficult ... but I am certainly glad that the market has improved.”
Julie has her Masters Degree in counseling, and spent her first career as the clinical director in a hospital based rehabilitation program.
“My background helps me with clients, absolutely. I know the importance of listening and attempting to understand the specific needs of the customer. With that in mind, I approach the job in a professional manner,” she said. “I work with a lot of professionals buying their second and third homes. You have to respect each other’s schedules and expectations.”

Julie’s success clearly demonstrates how much effort she puts into her job, and her reward is her personal life. Traveling with her husband often to their cabin in the woods of North Carolina and spending quiet time relaxing and reading keep her balanced. Their love of travel has taken Julie and her husband to many destinations, but they still love to call this area home.
