Tax-Aide needs counselors

Tax-Aide counselors prepare Federal income tax returns for low to middle-income taxpayers with special attention to those ages 60 or older. Most of the returns are completed electronically (e-file) and all are free. Neither counselors nor clients need to be members of AARP.

Counselors receive training and are certified in the basics of the US Individual Tax Code and in the use of the IRS provided tax preparation software. In addition to training, counselors receive the satisfaction of helping others and meeting their neighbors.

Commitment will be for training in January and preparing taxes at least one day a week during tax season, February through April 15.

Significant shortages exist in DeFuniak Springs. If you are interested in helping at one of the four Walton County sites, contact Joe Perry at 622-9756.

Catholic Charities needs food donations

With the holidays just around the corner, Catholic Charities of Northwest Florida is preparing to provide Thanksgiving meals to nearly 200 local families in need. The charity, whose Fort Walton Beach office serves residents of both Okaloosa and Walton counties, is in great need of traditional Thanksgiving foods as well as other staples in order to meet the demand.
