Twenty thousand women of all ages gathered in the Salt Lake City Conference Center for the historic first ever gathering of those eight and up to 80 plus for the General Women’s Conference. In addition, millions watched from their meeting houses throughout the world. The theme was making and keeping sacred covenants with emphasis on the multigenerational and intercultural nature of the event.

“I Am a Child of God” was sung in eight languages on a video and then was picked up by women and children throughout the world who were watching via satellite. This added many more languages to the favorite song. All speakers stressed the importance of covenants made, starting with baptism at age eight. Speakers at the gathering were First Counselor in the Church Presidency, Elder Henry B. Eyring; Primary General President Rosemary M. Wixom; Young Women General President Bonnie L. Oscarson; and the Relief Society General President Linda K. Burton.

Dana Sevy, attending with her daughters Madeline, 10, and Kathryn, 8, were present at the meeting house for a supper prior to the broadcast. She commented on this historic event.

“What a wonderful experience to attend General Women’s Conference with my daughters. We all loved the messages of unity that crossed all age brackets, as voiced by President Eyring, who said that we are more alike as daughters of God than we are different. The message from Bonnie L. Oscarson expressed that there is no age barrier when it comes to Christ-like service impressed us as well.  We were also moved with her example of Jesus’ Mother Mary and her cousin Elizabeth, bonding during their pregnancies in spite of their vast age differences. We were so spiritually uplifted and felt the confirmation yet again that we are daughters of the one and only Living God.”

Women from eight congregations in the Fort Walton Beach Stake in DeFuniak Springs, Crestview, Baker, Niceville, Fort Walton Beach and Sandestin were in attendance at their meeting houses.
