OneHarvest Food Ministries offers relief

Published: Thursday, November 29, 2012 at 12:28 PM.

Vision Church @ Christian International has recently become a partner site for OneHarvest Food Ministries, a non-profit, faith-based organization that provides high quality food at a fraction of the retail cost as part of their commitment to help feed families and build communities. With one in seven Americans now living in poverty and one of every 10 children in the U.S. suffering from food insecurity, organizations like OneHarvest can provide some much needed relief to every family’s grocery bills.

“We were sad to learn that other food programs in our area had shut down in the last few years,” said Ruth Pearce, senior coordinator for OneHarvest at Vision Church. “When we discovered OneHarvest, we knew this would be a program that could really benefit our community.”

All food items are flash frozen and sent directly from top manufacturers. There are no requirements to participate and no limits on how much food can be ordered. Ordering and distribution are done on a monthly basis via partner sites like Vision Church. Menu options vary slightly each month and include seasonal offerings. In December, in addition to standard menu items, Christmas Boxes will be offered at $41 and include:

7-8 lb. spiral sliced honey ham
2 lb. fresh frozen breaded okra
2 lb. fresh frozen sliced squash
2 lb. fresh frozen yam patties
2 lb. fresh frozen baby lima beans
12 count fresh frozen southern biscuits
1 lb. pkg giblet gravy
1 sweet potato pie

OneHarvest also offers ready-made diabetic and cholesterol friendly meals, which are especially helpful for elderly people or people with children. December orders are due on Dec. 7 and distribution day will be Saturday, Dec. 15.
