Northwest Florida State College recently held its annual Student Awards Day. Those local students recognized for student achievement for the 2013-2014 academic year include:

• New Student Government Association President Rachel Gilroy of Freeport and Vice President Jessica Kim of Niceville for the 2014-2015 year

• Early Childhood Education Honors Students —Grace Wells of Freeport

• Early Childhood Education Student of the Year — Grace Wells of Freeport

 • Excellence in Teacher Education, Fall 2013 — Shelby Truett of DeFuniak Springs

• Outstanding Achievement in Technical Theatre —  John McCullough of DeFuniak Springs

• Outstanding Achievement in Jazz Ensemble — Elizabeth Evans of DeFuniak Springs

• Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Ross Hamilton Participation Award — Jennifer Shrewsbury of Santa Rosa Beach

• Rookie RaiderReps of the Year — Hayden Rani Simmons of Freeport 

• Teacher Education Honor Students — Shelby Truett of DeFuniak Springs

• The Nightingale Heart of Nursing Award — Amy Owen, RN of Miramar Beach
