Northwest Florida State College recognized students Dec. 10 who successfully completed the college's vocational certificate program for Firefighting Basic during the fall 2013 academic semester.

Barry Reed, director of Emergency Services, noted that the graduates are now eligible to test for the state exam which consists of a written and practical test. NWF State College Fire Academy graduates are also encouraged to apply for ProBoard certification which could be beneficial in order to procure fire certification in other states.

Local graduates of the Fire Academy Class 004 are Nathan Shalduha and Clay Thames of DeFuniak Springs and Brandon Vonlanken of Santa Rosa Beach.

The EMS Department will begin accepting applications for the 2014 Fire Academy in January. If interested, call 850-729-4924.
